Effective Natural Deodorants for Summer

Effective Natural Deodorants

Summer is kind of here, and the rising temperature, airless public transport and running around like crazy through holidaying crowds comes oh-so-dreadful sweating! And sometimes the way, way too much sweating. One thing that green beauty is definitely missing is a good antiperspirant, hence natural deodorants should do. There is a huge choice of natural and safe deodorants out there that don’t contain any synthetic aluminium salts. I haven’t tried them all, but I would like to share two of my current favourites.

The first one is Madara Bio-Active Deodorant (£10 or 12.50). This is a roll-on natural deodorants, enriched with a “BIO blend of antibacterial Palm rose essential oil and plant extracts” and it’s aluminium free.

Aqua, Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Glycerin***, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cymbopogon Martini (Palmarosa Oil)*, Sodium PCA, Salvia Officinalis (Salvia) Leaf Extract*, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Mentha Piperiata Peppermint Leaf Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract*, Lysolecithin, Scierotium Gum, Aroma, Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactyl Lactate, Triethyl Citrate, Benzyl Alcohol, Xantan Gum, Pullulan, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Geraniol**, Linalool**, Limonene**, Citral**, Farnesol**

I quite like Madara skin and hair care products, they have good and clean ingredients and do what they promise. This deodorant is no different and it offers quite good protection. I am not a huge fan of roll-on deodorants, but Madara Bio-Active deodorant dries up quite fast so I’m ok with it. It doesn’t leave stains on white or black clothing like many other natural deodorants do. It helps to prevent both sweating itself and stinky smell, lasts the whole day without a need to reapply. And it’s really gentle too so I can use it even straight after shaving, smells good too, a bit floral but not overpowering. If you read this you probably think that this is the perfect deo and it is, but there is always a but…I can use it only up to a week, after that it’s no longer effective and I need to have 3-4 days break to make it work again.

So that’s where my second favourite natural deodorant comes along. Actually, I should add that I like to use at least 2-3 types of the same product and rotate them for best results. It looks like this approach works well with deodorants too. My second pick is Hippy Paste Deodorant (£5 per 60g), which has a creamy-paste kind of texture and it’s formulated with bicarbonate of soda. At the moment I have Pure, which is unscented and I’ve tried Tropical one before, which has a very pleasant coconutty scent!

Certified organic coconut oil, certified organic arrowroot powder, certified organic shea butter, sodium bicarbonate, beeswax

I am sure that real connoisseurs of green beauty are well aware how effective soda based, cream deodorants are, but for many it might look a bit unusual. Basically, there is nothing to worry about, it’s applied as any other cream, the only two points to remember are that it’s best not to keep it in the bathroom as it can separate and test it first as some people are sensitive to bicarbonate of soda.

Hippy Paste Natural Cream Review

There are many natural cream deodorants available on the market, but I love Hippy Paste deodorant as it’s very affordable, has 100% natural ingredients and the brand has very strong ethics especially when it comes to looking after the environment. As I’ve mentioned earlier I use this deodorant during a break from Madara Bio-Active deo. It is not supposed to prevent body from sweating but rather controls the smell, I personally find that it does both for me. Another good point about this deo is that it’s really easy to reapply during the day if needed. The only down side is that it leaves yellow marks on white clothing, however they are not permanent and are removed after wash. Otherwise, it’s a really good and efficient product to keep arm pits dry and fresh. Hippy Paste have quite a few flavours to choose from as well as a recent addition of vegan deodorant. I’ve also noticed that Hippy Paste deo kind of balances sweat production, so when I use it a couple of days in a row I don’t need any deodorant at all on a less busy day!

So far I am very happy with both of these natural deodorants. I’ve struggled a bit to find the right products for me but finally I am sorted with good smelling arm pits even in hot weather on a busy day.
